Aldro Thomson HibbardHibbard learned his style at the Massachusetts Normal Art School (now the Massachusetts College of Art) and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, where he studied with such well-known painters as Frank Benson, Phillip L. Hale, and Edmund Tarbell . The Museum School trained a generation of painters in the prevailing styles of Academic Classicism and Impressionism (this is where Hibbard excelled). He received a traveling scholarship from the Museum School which allowed him to study in Europe from 1913 to 1916. Here he came into direct contact with the works of the French Impressionists. Later he taught at Boston University.Hibbard found his inspiration not only in Vermont, but in the landscapes throughout New England and Canada. Summers were spent near the sea at either Cape Cod or Cape Ann. He founded and directed the Rockport School of Drawing and Painting which was names after him. Sandy Lepore, regarded by many as an expert on Hibbard, has over her twenty six years as a dealer placed many pictures executed by Aldro Thompson Hibbard; and one can usually find examples in her present inventory. In addition to Aldro Thompson Hibbard, Lepore Fine Arts specializes in artists painting between 1850 and 1950 with a focus on artists who painted in New England during this period.
