Harrison Cady (1877-1970)
Harrison Cady was born in Gloucester, MA, lived in Brooklyn, and eventually
settled in Rockport, MA. During his lifetime Cady was a well known
illustrator of children's book and magazines, including Life, Ladies' Home
Journal, Country Gentleman, and others. Cady is best known for his
illustrations for Thornton Burgess' books and Bedtime Stories. The
works represented here are the original pen and ink drawings, all signed by
the artist, for Burgess' Bedtime Stories.
Bedtime Stories
These stories appeared every
weekday in the Herald Tribune, as well as numerous other newspapers.
Thornton Burgess (1874-1965) was one of America's best known story writers,
and his collaboration with Harrison Cady lasted from 1911-1960. Through
their partnership, the adventures of lovable characters such as Peter and
Mrs. Rabbit, Reddy the Fox, Two-Stripe the Chipmunk, and many others were
brought to life for children to enjoy.
